Summer art classes for kids

Art camp overview:

I’m holding my next art camp from Tuesday July 6th to Thursday July 8th. Each day, the kids will come to my house at 12:00 pm, have a blast making art for two hours, and then go home at 2:00 pm.

Snacks will be provided, but please feed them lunch beforehand. They will also have a chance to take a break and play in the backyard, so please put sunscreen on them if they are prone to sunburns.

For this first art camp, I’m accepting children ages seven and up.

The art:

The focus of the art camp is on painting and drawing, and most projects will revolve around animals.

One large painting project will be planned for each day, interspersed with smaller drawing projects designed to inspire creativity. We will be working with paints that do not wash out of clothing, so please dress your child in something you don’t mind getting stained. Because the paintings will take time to dry, I’ll be keeping their artwork until the final day.

The projects:

Pet rock painting -The students will use acrylic to paint a rock to look like a mouse, rabbit, or guinea pig.

Acrylic painting of a bird- I’ll guide the students through creating a painting of a western tanager (a beautiful, yellow, local bird) worthy of hanging on the wall.

Ocean watercolor collage- Students will use watercolor paints and various texture techniques to create a lovely ocean background, then glue on real sand and shells for a 3d look.

Themed coloring book- For our big drawing project, the children will work together each day to make pictures for a coloring book. They will decide on a theme and each contribute several pages. I will scan all the pages and then print them into a coloring book for each child.

Art Gallery:

On our last day, Thursday, we will be having an art gallery in my front yard immediately following class at 2pm. Parents, family members, and friends are welcome to come and check out the amazing things the students have made. There will be refreshments, and the kids will take their art home at the end.
